What is sandblasting?
Sandblasting (also known as ‘abrasive blasting’, ‘shot blasting’ or ‘blast cleaning’), is the operation of forcibly propelling a stream of abrasive material against a surface under high pressure to smooth a rough surface, roughen a smooth surface, shape a surface or remove surface contaminants. The first abrasive blasting process was patented by Benjamin Chew Tilghman on 18 October 1870.
There are several variants of the process, which can involve the use of various forms of abrasive; some are highly abrasive, whereas others are milder.
At Eco Blast & Paint, we aim to use crushed glass that has already been recycled - because once a substance has been used for sandblasting it cannot be recycled again.
How is it done?
Some projects are more complicated than others, so before we undertake any works we will always carry out a free, no obligation assessment. We aim to determine:
The location of the project
This informs us of what type of process we should use, for example mixing the abrasive with water will reduce the volume of dust which is ideal for built-up areas / town centres
The condition of the surface now & what needs to be removed
If the wrong type of abrasive is used (either fine, medium or coarse) can have an effect on the original surface. We take our time to properly assess the project, with the aim of causing as little damage to the original surface as possible.
How much of the surface will require sandblasting & how long the project will take
We will bring with us the amount of abrasive required to complete the work, along with the cleaning equipment to clear up afterwards.
How the surface will look after the treatment
As part of our proposal we will be able to provide examples of our work to give you an idea of what the project will look like when completed.
